I love watching my cats play! They have a couple of favorite toys: empty cardboard boxes of any size/shape, and tiny toy mice.
They love boxes for sleeping on or in, for hiding, jumping in and out of, and for scratching posts. Only one of my 4 uses a real scratching post, and the rest use cardboard boxes -- their choice.
Every morning I have to retrieve their toy mice from the mouse graveyard. That is, the laundry closet. Under those bifold doors is where they almost always end up batting the mice, while I'm sleeping.
I love to watch them batting the mice -- they keep their claws in and those soft little mittens just poke and jab at the tiny toys, never showing a sign of the pure savagery they are capable of.
All my cats were old cats for so many years. Lacy was the last of my old kitties, and so now all 4 are under 3 years old. So, it's like I'm re-learning how entertaining cats at play can be.
Choosing the best toys for your cat is important and something you should do with care, even tho it often seems they will play with almost anything.
